Kaytlyn Johnson is a proud Palawa singer-songwriter from North-West Tasmania.

Before having released any music, Kaytlyn performed her original music alongside reputable artists, such as opening for Thelma Plum and composing and performing with GRAMMY® award winning artist, Lucky Oceans.

Kaytlyn has been passionate about songwriting since she heard Taylor’s Swift’s Fearless album and began re-writing the lyrics to the songs at the age of nine. She was then taught her first four chords on guitar by her aunty and has never looked back from writing her own music!

Kaytlyn grew up in Wynyard and surrounds on the North-West coast of Tasmania, on Tommigenne country. Although a beautiful place to live, Kaytlyn felt the burdens of growing up with a lack of resources and opportunity for young people, as well as experiencing financial hardship and intergenerational trauma. Despite not being able to afford singing lessons and attending a rural high school that didn’t have a school band or a complete music theory curriculum, she worked hard to stay true to her goals of pursuing songwriting.

During years 11 and 12, Kaytlyn worked 2 jobs to support her family whilst studying for her final exams. Kaytlyn needed to receive a high ATAR to move away for University in Melbourne, not only to chase her dreams of higher education and her career in music, but also to break away from the financial hardship experienced by her family and many young people in rural areas like Northern Tasmania.

Now, after completing her University degrees and levelling the playing field for herself, Kaytlyn is finally ready to cement her own name within the Australian music scene. Kaytlyn is very proud to have
worked hard to fund her upcoming EP release. The record explores themes of feminine empowerment and self-growth through an indie-pop and indie-rock genre lense, with intricate lyrics always remaining at the forefront of her sound.
