Kaytlyn Johnson is a proud Palawa songbird, raised in Tasmania and now based in Naarm, and has made waves with her three releases, landing Spotify editorial Playlist covers, Triple J plays, and a Rolling Stone appearance.
After a debut headline tour and export to London for songwriting sessions, Kaytlyn will share a hopeful, open D, lullaby titled Metamorphosis on April 16.
Kaytlyn opens up about the germination of her favourite release yet:-
“
Metamorphosis, the final track on my EP, rounds out a tracklist that turns self-doubt into self-trust. It explores themes of trusting your own feminine power and strength passed down from our ancestors.
On my first day of studying abroad I bought a brand new songwriting book. The first page was fresh, crisp, and honestly, my whole life in that moment reflected it. I wrote the first verse of Metamorphosis with that first blank page as my muse. I wrote about who I’d hope to become on this journey of self-discovery on the other side of the world. I am so proud of this song, and I hope it acts as a sense of comfort in the most uncertain times. Decadence will shower you as soon as you grow.
My ambitions for my career include inspiring a generation of young First Nations women to achieve their dreams of turning their love for songwriting and performing into a career. I hope to build an audience that feels seen, heard and understood through my lyrics, and I hope to connect with them at many live performances, including headline tours, festivals and meet and greets across the country and beyond.

Before having released any music, Kaytlyn had already performed with GRAMMY® award winning artist Lucky Oceans and opened for Australian pop-icon Thelma Plum. Kaytlyn has been taken under the wing of Kate Miller-Heidke and APRA AMCOS through various mentorship programs and is now ready to cement her own position in the Australian music scene through her debut EP release on June 5th 2026.
This EP was recorded in the state-of-the-art studios at ANU in Canberra and produced by ACT pop sensation, Sophie Edwards. This tracklist, prioritises real instruments, including a haunting live string section, punchy live drums and a swell of melodic leadership by heartfelt guitar and grand piano. These songs, particularly in a live setting, are a bucket that collects you within an ocean of Kaytlyn’ stories, transporting you to her hardest times, deepest fears and most desperate dreams. You will swirl within a fusion of folk, pop and rock whilst keeping lyrical intricacies and poetry at the forefront of her sound.
In a live performance capacity, Kaytlyn relishes in playing alongside the deep blue frequencies of captivating First Nations bassist, Davin Ojala. He brings a sonic depth and rhythmic backbone to an already ethereal moment that you can ill-afford to miss.
